Upcoming: It's Time! The Paranoid City Farewell Gig!

12/27/2018 01:47:52 AM

After a long run that spanned for almost a full decade, Paranoid City is taking its final curtain this Saturday... or wait, is it really the finale of them all?

2018 will probably see another heartbreaking ending with one of the most underrated synth-pop bands to grace the local music scene in this decade. And that is taking place on the final Saturday of the year.

Dax Balmeo (Dax), Japo Anareta (8Bit), Rommel Celespara (4Track), and Eric Po, will take the stage as this quartet for one final time, together with four other bands Cosmic Parasols, Stereodeal, Farewell Fair Weather, and Carousel Casualties.

Paranoid City has been formed in 2009 as a trio, with Balmeo serving the roles of the guitar player and lead vocalist, and Anareta playing the lead and bass synthesizers. Balmeo and Anareta were later joined by Celespara (Synthesizers, Electric Piano, and FX) in 2011 and Po (drums) in late 2017.

In over the course of nine years, Paranoid City released their debut album Viewfinder Dreams in 2011; but took them six long years before unveiling the sophomore record Metropolitan, just barely long enough to satisfy the fans' clamor for new music after a very long time of releasing new songs. Apart from that, the four-man synth-pop band managed to land a number of gigs overseas, headlined some of the big music fests in the country, commercial endorsements, and even took part of an advertisement that went viral. On top of that, Paranoid City also signed a distribution deal with MCA Music in 2017.

However, in the latter part of the year, Balmeo announced his departure from the Paranoid City and sparked the news regarding on the future of the band. And just a few weeks since the sudden announcement, PC formally addressed their disbandment; ending the rumors and sending their fans in shock and disbelief.

Still, in spite of the announcement, the gig's title is It's Time! The See-You-Later Night... (updated as It's Time! Paranoid City Farewell Gig) because who's a fan of goodbyes here, anyway, right? We'll never know, fellas.

Regardless, this is one final chapter that should not be missed as the show will emanate 8:30 PM live at the band's homecourt, saGuijo Cafe, in Makati City. Door charge is priced P300 and comes with one free drink.

Of course, we could hope for Paranoid City to bade its synthizens "see you later!"
