The Rundown Slam: MWF Republika

07/18/2018 01:23:38 AM

Manila Wrestling Federation's latest event focused on three key stories: the seven sets of clashes to complete the elite eight competitors for the MWF Championship, finishing the unfinished business between Ho Ho Lun and Robin Sane, and (believe it or not) the growing global presence of Gus Queens.

And as MWF moves forward to the second round of the championship tournament, it can't be denied that it was overshadowed by post-match shenanigans that has given resemblances of that basketbrawl between Philippines and Australia – and moreover, a sudden turn by Mr. Lucha on his best friend.

But nevertheless, this is probably not the last time we will see Sane cross paths with the KOPW champion. The storytelling was on-point that has gotten everyone involved. But I wish the kids knew better when they chant against the visiiting villain.

All of the first round matches – except for one – were solid and well-received by the crowd. Interesting to see Jomar Liwanag rises up to the challenge against Fabio Makisig, with their co-tandems most likely stealing the show at ringside by their next outing. I can also sense on how RG aims to vow revenge against Morgan Vaughn and the glitches that has sent the former's thesis to oblivion.

I admit. A sudden appearance by PWR's Martivo surprised me, but didn't stray away from the fact that Rex Lawin would still emerge victorious and unleash his fury, something that has spawned his unbeatable run in MWF so far. Something tells me: a match between him and Makisig could culminate their own runs for a moment, especially if this would be at the finale of the championship tournament.

However, with some lapses in their video displays, they could've done better during their tech rehearsals, though.

With MWF's next house show to be staged nearly two months from now, there will be a whole lot of ground to make up, and probably another level of entertainment to unfold with potentially new feuds and a next-level continuation for some (hey, make no mistake about it: despite the flaws, Republika has been a stellar showing at all).

The Verdict: 8.6
