The Scene Around: Gabby Alipe "A New Strain" EP Launch

12/06/2016 03:47:14 AM

It was during that fateful Friday night in November when one of the gems in the Filipino rock has solidified his status as a one-man act. And this time, Gabby Alipe wasn't the same old Cebuano rock star we all know.

While the famed front man took the helm of Urbandub for 15 years, being a soloist was a whole new different journey. After grueling process of song-making with producer Eric Perlas, Alipe released a six-track EP titled A New Strain, on November 11 and 12 at the A Space Gallery in Legazpi Village, Makati City.
And the formal launching of A New Strain also comes an audio-visual exhibit from renowned concert photographer Roxanne Nebres and music video director Paolo Ruiz; including the showing of the music video Visions, Alipe's first single off the EP.

The singer-songwriter also performed three songs with Joey Dizon in an acoustic set that complimented the intimate event and the cozy venue.

Asked about the story behind of this setup, Alipe said they were aiming to highlight the hard-working men and women behind the success of every musician, such as photographers and filmmakers. Thus, paving way for Nebres and Ruiz, whom both were taken under his helm, upon the making of the solo project.

He also describes the recording process a very different different one; considering him now making music on his own compared to his band days with where he will basically write the material and lets his bandmates and him do the revisions and arrangement.

“I wasn't really looking for a particular sound. I just wanted to write something that will be good for me; I will be enjoy listening and best describes me as a person. Tapos chill lang,” said Alipe.

Another night of A New Strain EP Launch was also held the following night (12 November 2016) with other musicians Autotelic, Cables and Spaces, Faspitch, and Sirens joining the party. The record is now available at Astroplus and AstroVision outlets nationwide.
