The Pre-take: WWE SummerSlam 2016 - Rollins vs. Balor (WWE Universal Championship)

08/22/2016 01:48:36 AM

It's a new era, and therefore it means a new championship for the WWE's flagship program Monday Night RAW. Since then, RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley unleashed their new title that will represent the red brand – the WWE Universal Championship.

Sounds pun, but it's really not. And while the first overall draft pick got the instant contender shot, the other one has to climb the way to success.

And it seemingly a half-shocker to say Finn Balor, RAW's third pick has found his way for the chance to win the universal title. Yes, after winning the fatal-four way in the semi-final tournament, and defeating Roman Reigns (the winner in another other fatal-four match) in a singles action to become the contender #1 against Seth Rollins.

I think the build-up was kinda good, with much lesser action yet more storytelling. And more focused, too. The only problem I have with the build-up is the plan where Seth called the Demon King lying beneath the alter ego of Finn. When the latter appeared like one on RAW, it was sure that the former was intimidated by his presence. But that could've saved for SummerSlam since Finn's real gimmick was more than special than anyone else – and count Brock Lesnar's cameos right there.

Moving on. Seth's potential victory is not a story of success, but rather how effective he is being a heel. In case he takes home the W, he proved himself that he is indeed the man but emerging as a taunting villain without the cheating act needed to display. Like he is a protege of Triple H, or Stephanie McMahon; for looking like he have things handed to him in a silver platter.

However, there might be a double-turn soon, especially if the Club will be part of the act. Imagine them winning titles, and will work as heels against the doble-kara combo of Steph and Mick soon.

And if that's the case, I'd rather see the former Prince Devitt owning the first ever WWE Universal Championship. That, indeed, is how you establish the new era on RAW!
