The Scene Around: EDGES

2/24/2015 1:58:51 PM

It was an arts and music-packed evening last Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Route 196 in Quezon City, as Docdef Productions and Fringe MNL teamed up and brought EDGES possible.

Eleven bands rocked the night away as people flocked the venue for a night of good music, appealing aesthetics – whether in form of hand-made and digital, and perhaps a better alternative to celebrate the night away aside from suiting up for Chinese New Year celebration.

BennyBunnyBand kicked of the night with some upbeat tracks; while Alasmedya seconded them in acoustics; and Sud provided soulful flava along the way.

Also, the instrumentalists Tom’s Story and popular indie acts Jensen and the Flips, Maya’s Anklet, MilesExperience, and She’s Only Sixteen, performed as well as top favorites Autotelic and Farewell Fair Weather; while Ube caped the night with a massive set at near-dawn.

I heard almost the entirety of the lineup, and also saw the artworks of Cinos, Clai Litiatco, Kit Palayab and Mr. S as well as the exhibit by the Gab Pili Photography, and digital live art by Jeff Baligad (which by the way, were shown during the performances of Tom’s Story and Autotelic).

And to say though, it was a heck of a mid-week getaway experience for me, chillin’ out with the rock bands, seeing some masterpieces, while having some booze and meeting with several acquaintances during the evening.

The bar was crowded with the rockers, music and art aficionados, which barely means it was indeed a very successful event held both by the organizers DocDef Productions and Fringe Manila. And since I’m all up for good music and arts as well, kudos to both groups for putting up such a very nice gathering.

Despite the space inside Route 196, and a bit of banters (which are not a bad thing at all), and unable to finish the entirety of the evening, EDGES was once great show to kickoff the Chinese New Year holiday (minus the tradition, of course) with a bang.

Meanwhile, here are some of the photos during the event itself.
