The Pre-Take: WrestleMania 31 (Part 3)

3/29/2015 9:01:46 PM

Since it’s gonna be another heck-of-an-event this coming Sunday evening in Silicon Valley (Monday morning Manila time), expect the millions (and millions!) of wrestling fans around the globe to witness the World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) 31st annual spectacle, popularly known as WrestleMania!

And what’s a WrestleMania for the SlickMaster – along with his followers (whom, by the way, are just countable by your fingertips!) without a “pre-take,” right?

Talk about predictions, just like the way we have last year.

The Streak would not be matter anymore. It’s all about bragging rights this time; the power; the distinction to be called “The Face of Fear” in the World Wrestling Entertainment. Undertaker versus Bray Wyatt.

The pre-stage of this fight has been all Bray Wyatt. The former family patriarch has been unleashing the gimmicks all by himself, from Fast Lane onwards.

On the other hand, the Phenom has yet to be seen in WWE TV since WrestleMania XXX. It’s like we haven’t got any news from him at all since he was sent to the hospital following his biggest loss—as well as WrestleMania’s—against Brock Lesnar. Admit it, folks. No one saw that coming unless you’re Paul Heyman or any smarks whose been weighing more on physique over storyline.

The question: Is the Undertaker still has it? Can he have the guts to strike anyone in the WWE almost a year after a devastating loss mortified him and his mythical-slash-rocket scientific-driven winning streak into two things: him being a literally mortal being, and that record into history?

Well, we’ll find that out on Sunday.

Though as for me, it’s gonna be Taker.

One question though: how will the scenery of this fight fare up with the overall atmosphere of Silicon Valley? Considering WM31 will start on late Sunday afternoon. But according to some of my friends out there, the sun will be finally out quite late. Yes, as late as 8 in the evening. Anyway...

Potential winner: The Undertaker

Two icons: One’s called the “Franchise,” while the other’s “The Game.”

Is this one overdue, like 14 years in the making? I don’t think so, considering Sting went to TNA some time, even after WCW was bought by the WWE.

But storyline-wise, YES!

From Survivor Series to RAW to Fast Lane, and now... to WrestleMania!

I’m seeing HHH will lose anew; and should that went real, it’s another disappointing loss for The Cerebral Assassin in WrestleMania (second straight, in fact).

Besides, there’s no way the WCW’s last man standing could lose, especially if speculations will become true soon–a match between Sting and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32!

And here comes the bigger prize, though disappointed match-up as the IWC perceives. Come on, give them a break, folks!

Brock Lesnar has been a destructive force since he went back to the WWE in 2012. But over the course of time, Lesnar lost his first WrestleMania match against Triple H. However, he bounced back and took The Undertaker—along with his two decades of dominance at the grand event—down.

He snatched the belt away from John Cena with 16 suplexes and a pair of F5s. Talk about unleashing a monster just like that, aye?

However, his limited appearance made him a “sleeping champ.” Can we blame the creatives for that? Maybe. But with Brock appearing rarely compared to any other WWE superstars? I think that could be a factor either.

Well, with him signing a new 3-year pact, we hope to see more of the best in the Beast Incarnate.

On the other hand, Roman Reigns was the dubbed “Powerhouse” of the SHIELD. And before the group split, the big badass Samoan won 2 WrestleMania matches along with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. Upon the Rollins double-cross segment, Reigns was seen to become the next top face of this company.

But is WWE pushed him too much, to the extent it appeared his Royal Rumble win was nothing but sort of inorganic move? As it seems, yes.

But is there anything WWE can do about it, aside from making him “look strong” on his matches? Don’t get me wrong though, but Ro of the Smark-Gilas Pilipinas was right: he’s been putting decent to solid matches; and to be frank, his scuffle with Daniel Bryan was a bold, huge move to solidify his stand as the top title contender.

But even if it sounds different, the hype was less physical as it is. Perhaps, save them for Sunday.

I’m seeing some possible scenarios:

(1) With Lesnar re-signing with WWE, he might extend his reign soon, unless...

(2) Seth Rollins cashed in his MITB and curb-stomps Lesnar to end the fight, and the match (and it couldn’t be getting any uglier than that)

(3) Reigns wins (which most likely will happen), snatches the title, but Rollins might also use his MITB briefcase for a potential title switch.

(4) And also, Rollins would also fail to do so after somebody squanders the opportunity, like Randy Orton... or even Dean Ambrose.

PW: Roman Reigns

There will be possible new feuds coming out from this match really, really soon! It does not get any better than this!

And even with some jeers in the process, I’m expecting WrestleMania 31 will deliver just like any other WrestleManias. Hopefully, I could give them another high-grade as soon as I watched them tomorrow!.

To conclude this post, aside from the fact that it’s less than 11 hours away from the 31st annual staging of WWE’s flagship program, I have here a couple of plugs:

There will be a WrestleMania viewing party in Skinny Mike’s at Bonifacio Golobal City. Event starts at 6:30 AM and the entrance is free. His event was made possible by The Smark Gilas-Pilipinas (SGP) podcast, along with the Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR), and the event’s official venue partner Skinny Mike’s. Check out their event page on Facebook for more info.

And in case you don’t have time to take a leave on Monday morning, FOX Philippines will air WrestleMania 31 on Monday evening, right after the season 5 finale of The Walking Dead at 10:20 PM. Replays will be on Tuesday noon (March 31 2015, 12:25 PM) , and this coming weekend (April 4 2015, Saturday, 2:05 PM; and April 5 2015, Sunday, 3:45 PM).

Other than that, you can check out the live-blogging sections on Rappler, other wrestling portals, live-streaming sites, and even on Twitter (Yes, I'll be my money on the fact that #WrestleMania will trend worldwide once again–and no way they will never be!).

**WrestleMania 31 on FOX airing does not include the 2-hour special pre-show; and times displayed on their replaying schedule may change without prior notice.
