Honestly speaking, I was in doubt for naming this post Shockers of 2014. I know: every year, news will always shock us, regardless if it runs on the same old shitty cycle or not.
But I beg to digress and I can’t help it. It’s like every year there will be happenings here in the metro, or somewhere in the country, or even around the globe that will wake our consciousness, regardless if it sounds stupid or legit; if it contains shallowness or well-excavated depth; or just because of a prominent name alone. Anyone who’s been scrutinizing all the current events and news should know there are key elements why such stories made it to the communication medium no matter how much we hate it or love it.
I tried recalling most (if not all) of the news that struck us in the year 2014 and gave my take on them as much as I can. If it differs on your point of view, then who cares anyway?
All stories enlisted on this article are arranged randomly.

Okay, from one shocker factor to another. How about Arwind Santos launching his singing career?
Yes, he had an album with a carrier single “Bagyo.” Why, you only thought of those “artistas” having the capability to launch their singing talent to the stratosphere? In fact, Bagyo has its own music video.
Perhaps, this shocked the local basketball aficionados. Talk about being multi-talented, huh?
Speaking of which…
How about Manny Pacquiao being drafted in the PBA?
I know: playing basketball was already nothing new to him. But how about joining the pros? Nah, npow that’s evitable.
In fact, he was drafted by his team Kia Sorento, where he’s also the head coach. Now that is something to deal with.
But look, that made him an all-around personality either: from being a boxer (or technically, athlete), to a politician, an entertainer, and also… preacher.
Wow, how on earth did that happen, right?
I wonder though, would fatigue will take its toll on him? I hope not, ‘cause for sure that’s gonna be a problem (and ‘managing time’ along was not the definite solution right there). Plus the fact that his team, though new, has been on a downslide. I don’t want to call it a mediocre since they’re a newbie to the PBA in the first place.
Plus his very first game doesn’t appeared impressive: three turnovers within a few minutes. No single point scored. And that’s in front of 52,612 fans inside the Philippine Area. Ouch.
We all know what the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 system has been a sucker all year long. Long queues from ticket stations to crowd-packed platforms, to the size of the train itself and now… on their parts itself.
And the incident along Taft Station just showed one of its worst case scenarios. Has anyone saw that coming? Maybe, but… still you’ve got to be surprised with the outcome. Like “How on Earth?”
That gave another blow to MRT, which has been on a mission to raise their fare. Nah, only if it would go to the transportation system’s improvement, I would give my sign of approval for that. But… nah!
Not a follower of the 2014 Brazil World Cup here, but that doesn’t mean I don’t dog football at all. In fact, I used to play the game on my old phone before (I wish I could really do so in reality), but forget Germany’s world championship match and how they garnered the title. But certainly we can never deny this semifinal match against Brazil.
That first five goals within nearly one-third of the match spelled doom already for the host’s neighboring country.
Talk about massacre. Talk about literally taking the game away from the hosts. Just.. taking the game away from the home team and its crowd. That definitely hurt a lot!
It’s more than just the Spurs upsetting the Heat in the NBA Finals, Chris Weidman upsetting Andersen Silva (in June 2013), or even Brock Lesnar decimating John Cena through 16 German suplexes.
Yes, talk about domination in a surprising manner, huh?
That game qualified along in our list of shockers since first: rare people here in the Philippines (unless you are an alien) knows football; second, even if there’s FIFA World Cup, (in relation to the first mentioned statement) there’s no guarantee that there will be “awareness” in that sport; and third, the nature of the score does not really racks up to nine total goals for a single football team. An improbable 7-1? That’s like a huge version of baseball’s “shutout.”

Perhaps nobody saw this coming: how on earth would television host-slash-comedian Ferdinand Vhong Navarro get mauled?
Wait, there’s an allegation: did he raped this female model which later on became a hot target of bashers?
Plus, whose side is saying the “real” thing at all? On a superficial mode, it would appear that Cedric Lee may lie; but of course, there are always two sides of the story. Meaning, his camp, along with Deniece Millet Cornejo are staying sides which appeared malicious on the eyes of both the public, the victims (obviously), and even on the middlemen.
But despite the shocking updates from Navarro himself, manager Chito Roño, and the entire mainstream media which treat this item as a “national item,” I can only utter a two-word question: NOW WHAT?
Okay, make that four: SO THE FUCK WHAT?
It doesn’t matter which side tells the truth. We have seen enough, and this garbage doesn’t even need to be part of a recycle bin.
