Perhaps in all the recent Christmas station anthems, I can only come up with a fitting (if not perfect) choice to be part of my every Holiday playlist (aside from those Yuletide-related hits from three of the past decades in Retro 1105.9 DCG FM).
I know. ABS-CBN once made Sa Araw Ng Pasko a big-time seller during the late '90s, thanks to their star-studded pool.
And on 2009, just merely two months after typhoon Ketsana (or locally known as “Ondoy”) brought destruction and even much devastation to the Philippine capitol and nearby provinces, the nation's leading television network brought an idea of life titled “Star ng Pasko.”
Inspired by one of their teleseryes May Bukas Pa, ABS-CBN put up “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko” as their tagline for the period.
Over 300 talents teamed up for the execution, which included the popular ones, and even the ordinary Kapamilyas, good enough to complete the so-called 'all walks of life.'
And it was during the Christmas eve of that year when I randomly browsed YouTube and watched the 5-minute and 19-second length clip.
At some point, every time I heard this track, it never failed me to give goosebumps. On a religious (or let's say Christian) aspect, the song aspires for one thing: Christ as the center of the annual tradition. In addition, the track brought the much-needed inspirational words for all the victims of the calamity, no matter how devastated they got.
So, no wonder why Star Ng Pasko deserved to be part of the bets Christmas Station IDs here in the country, whether it be the present contemporary era, or all-time.
