Lookback: Batch 2011

5/1/2014 7:44:45 PM

It’s been three years since this episode aired on Philippine television; and of course, yours truly, was one of those million (should I say) college graduates from batch 2011.

And since it’s Labor Day, and by coincidence... a Thursday (or should I say... #ThrowbackThursday), let’s take a trip back to 2011 and review this episode once again.

Say, it’s not just the same old format the show that I missed the most. It’s just I realized that… hey, time flies really fast, huh? It’s like I remembered watching this episode during the last and numbered days of my student life, was 20 years old way back then, and was totally inactive on the blogosphere yet.

It’s only today when I managed to pull this stuff at all; ‘cause I feel that even if it’s already 2014, people of younger generations, specifically the fresh graduates and even those a bit elders, are still struggling to lure a working opportunity of their own.

And even yours truly experienced them all, since it’s only late 2012 when I managed to be employed for the first time in my existence.

At the moment, I can say the search for another job was already over; since I finally managed to get over the hump by acing that final interview blues recently (so I’ll say “congratulations to myself, hehehe!).

But anyway, specifically for the “struggling ones” out there, I hope this episode from Aksyon TV’s defunct socio-cultural talk show Tayuan Mo! At Panindigan might help you to be aware of what the employment-seeking situation in the country was all about. Yes, even ‘a bit.’

  1. I haven't watched the clip. But I agree with you. Unemployment/underemployment is really "rampant" today. Personally, I think the problem lies with our education system. Many courses are being offered which are not in demand anymore or the pay is very low. On the other hand, schools are not also teaching us how to create jobs instead of looking for them. I guess the education system must evolve and also for our students to learn the needed skills in order for them to land a very good job.

    1. I can attest to that 'cause even I myself experienced the troubles of seeking for work.

Well, let's hope the K to 12 system will help at least, not just to ease the pain, but to put an end to this for once and for all.

  2. Naku! 2014 na, pahirapan pa rin naman maghanap ng trabaho. Pero for sure ang daming tinamaan dun sa sinabi ni Lourd about work vs career. Konti na lang talaga makikita mong trabaho na tugma with the things that you are passionate about doing. Pero kahit paano ngayon, compared to 2011, mas lantad na ang options online for you to work especially at nauso na ang home-based jobs (basta di ka choosy sa work at di ka makatisod ng scammer)

    1. Yeah. Napakalungkot nga lang talaga. Tama, like right now I'm on an online job kaso part-time basis (dahil I don't own any PC at all), so on my part, wala pa ring mas sasarap kesa sa magkaroon ng either of two things: PC or stable job.

  3. "Open your eyes for every opportunity that will come along because it might be the one job that you are looking for" .This is my fist time to watch this episode an even though it was aired 3 years ago, the information it contains still holds true.

    1. Yes, indeed, that's why I managed to put up this post even if it seems another throwback in the first place. And frankly speaking, I'm a member of batch 2011.

  4. It's hard to pursue your passion when you have mouths to feed and bills to pay. Swerte yung nakapasok sa industry na mahal nila. Minsan kasi madami ngang listings dito sa Pinas pero di naman tugma sa skills ng manpower. That's why a lot of our professionals are seeking opportunities abroad. Pero, I think the Philippines is slowly emerging from the rut it has been stuck in for years. :)

    1. Tama. I think so, considering na kahit papaano naman ay may mga nakakakuha pa rin naman ng work. Though hopefully, in some years time (sana "few" talaga to say the least), the flaws about job mismatches would die down even a bit.

  5. I enjoy watching the videos. funny ang mga hosts at maganda ang topic. I agree with the saying quoted by Lourd De Veyra about sa work or career, "Find something you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life" .

    1. Yeah, even if I'm pretty sure na some others would contest the view by saying any points about practicality and other related terms per se.

  6. Awww. My brother also graduated on the same batch and I can attest that it really is hard to get a job, with million graduates fighting for not to many vacant positions. But in the end, you have to do what you really want and persevere in it to be really successful.

    1. Indeed. Sometime's it's tough to make decisions especially if you're career is what they called as "on the line." I mean, about what you really wanted to do for a long time.
